Oranneigées, little hearts with slippery icing!
Do you know the story of my little iced orange biscuits?
No? I was sure of it! In that case, follow me, I’m taking you to faraway lands… to Graubünden to be exact!
It all started on a clear winter afternoon, snow had fallen all night and the sun was shining brightly over our beautiful country. It had been a little too long since I had embarked on a crazy adventure in the sun AND in a snowy landscape, so here I am, off on a trip to the land of adrenaline.
I headed to the foot of the Albula Pass, in Preda, to start the longest illuminated toboggan run in Europe! No less! Imagine… 6 km of descent along a UNESCO World Heritage railway to reach Bergün.
I started by renting a comfortable and practical little toboggan in the heart of the village. Then I joined the track, took a deep breath, and put on my mask. That's it, I'm ready to hurtle down the slope with grace and great speed.
I straddled my miniature sled and off I went! Whoaahhhhoohhoohhhhhhoooupssssss!
First turn almost mastered, at the second I picked up speed (not too fast pleaaase) and at the third, I crashed! I plunged with the grace I imagined into the wall of fresh, virgin snow that appeared on my right. Children passed me from all sides, everything was fine! ;)
No matter! For once, I got back on my ride, repositioned my mask, and we were off again! This time I took my time, approached each turn with (almost) lightness and control. The moment was magical, the sun was shining on the slope, the turns followed one another but were all different, and I savored this newfound freedom.
After the best minutes of my winter, I reached the village of Bergün as the sun set, the lights came on on Europe's longest toboggan run. I admired the splendid blanket of snow stretching over the valley, and an idea came to me… a beautiful winter icing for new biscuits?
As usual, this idea makes its way into my hard head with a soft heart (like my almond loves) and I get to work making winter biscuits with stunning icing! Dozens hundreds of batches later, my taste buds are all tingling!
The result: delicious Swiss products, subtle notes of orange, a pretty heart shape and a slippery icing that you'll be telling me about… the Oranneigées are just waiting to be tasted!
