The third and final article in our series on the fight against food waste. After delving into the intricacies of consumption dates and tips and tricks for navigating them by trusting our senses, today we will address the one that unites them all: the famous Consumption Date Pact.
Initiated in 2018 by our partner Too Good To Go, the Pact officially launched in January 2020.
The Situation
More than ⅓ of food is wasted! Imagine all these good Swiss products unused, crying on their shelves... There are several reasons for this, including confusion about consumption dates. Between the Use-by Date (to be consumed by) and the Best-before Date (to be consumed preferably before), many consumers get lost, and as a result... it ends up in the bin!
The Solution
Reduce food waste by improving understanding of dates. How? By creating a coalition of stakeholders committed to clarifying their meaning, harmonizing dates, and working together with the common ambition of reducing waste.
A proud signatory of this ingenious and innovative Pact, Agathe is committed to doing everything possible to inform its consumers (hello blog articles) by following the 4 lines of work designed by its creators. 4 themes that encompass the 10 commitments of the Pact.
- Educate and raise awareness, internally and externally
- Clarify the difference between use-by and best-before dates for consumers
- Optimize the valorization of products excluded from sales channels
- Collaborate to harmonize best practices and optimize distribution flows
So, if you also think food waste is a waste, talk about it everywhere and do everything you can to join the pact! You can also find your favourite biscuits on the
Too Good To Go app... and that's already a VERY GOOD commitment ;)
