Since the dawn of time, palm oil has been used in pie crusts to make them crispy. Crispiness is all well and good, but this widely used oil in the food sector is far from unanimously accepted. Why? Because it has a destructive power for both health and the planet.
For health: (Too) rich in saturated fatty acids, it increases bad cholesterol.
For the planet: (Too) used because it is cheap, it contributes to deforestation, leading to the disappearance of certain species like the Orangutan, but that's not all! Palm oil is produced with very toxic chemicals and most of the time under deplorable working conditions.
It is for this reason that at Agathe, always with our goal of doing what is good, right, and Swiss, we decided from the start to ban palm oil from our pie crusts! And from all our products, for that matter! Also for neutral, sweet, 7 cm or 4 cm crusts, we exclusively use vegetable oils produced in Switzerland: rapeseed and sunflower.
And for crispiness? No quarter for this grand lady of pastry! Our pie crusts are good for the taste buds AND the planet AND perfectly crispy! Moreover, we offer you here some small recipe ideas to fill yours! ;)
