Today, we suggest taking it a step further and continuing to help us reduce food waste through something full of meaning…
Common sense! Or rather, three senses.
SIGHT
SMELL
TASTE
Our partner and creator of the Consumption Dates Pact, Too Good To Go, of which we are a signatory, sums up the idea very well in three words:
OBSERVE, SMELL, TASTE!
First, observe the product from all angles and look at its appearance. If you don't notice anything abnormal, such as mould, a change in colour or shape, that's a good first sign.
Second, bring the product to your nose and smell it. Is its smell the same as usual or has something changed, like a slightly rancid, fermented, or even pungent smell? If its smell seems normal, you can move on to the last step.
Third, since the appearance and smell of your product are good, you can now taste it to ensure it's edible. If it tastes as good as usual (even better if it's an Agathe biscuit), and you enjoy it, then you're good to go! Even if it's labelled "best before...", you can savour your product!
By following this simple rule of common sense, you create positive outcomes on several levels:
- you avoid waste
- you save some money
- you enjoy your products longer
- you train your senses to recognise edible foods
- you actively participate in Agathe's and Too Good To Go's anti-waste efforts!
