Here I am, off on a new adventure, full of dreams, heading for the Combe de l'A. Nestled in the heart of the Grand Saint-Bernard region, the landscape is breathtaking. The sun begins its descent over the valley, and I walk along the path. Small signs punctuate the way, explaining the fauna and flora you can see there. Deer (yay!), chamois, roe deer, ibex, marmots, golden eagles... a whole program that puts me in a rare state of excitement!
After about an hour's walk and proudly spotting a few marmots, binoculars to my nose, I finally spot a solitary deer. I stop dead in my tracks and then sit on the ground so as not to be seen. Its gait is solemn, slow, and majestic – it's magical. Suddenly, I see it raise its head. The magic then works, and it begins to rut. I can't believe my ears! Not only do I hear it, but I also see it! This powerful cry sends shivers down my spine; it's even more extraordinary than I expected.
After a few minutes, the deer disappears before my awestruck eyes, and I start my journey back. Fields of thyme and rosemary stretch as far as the eye can see. I pick a few sprigs and rub them in my hands. What sweet scents! That could perfectly enhance a recipe... I've never made small savoury biscuits before, but there's a first time for everything, isn't there?
